Camp Joy (Operation Help a Hero) (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA)

Deployment doesn't take a break, but "deployment single" parents, need one. Spouses of our active duty military force shoulder the burden of keeping the homefires burning , often doing everything for 6-12 months a time with no family nearby to support them. Because of this, many of these moms and dads get no break for months at a time. But deployment doesn't take a break.  OHH Camp JOY is our answer to this ever-present need. We provide a 5 hour block of fun for kids with deployed parents, and Mom/Dad gets a much needed break.

OHH Camp JOY gives children, dealing with a parent deployed, an opportunity to be around members of the community who appreciate the sacrifice they make and adults to serve as mentors. Our hope is that every camp is so special, so fun, and so filled with JOY that each child will spend the day focused on the celebration not the separation.

OHH Camp JOY gives a hands-on opportunity for civilian volunteers to thank and support the military families who serve them. Volunteers serve as counselors, activity directors, craft/art directors, sports coordinators and more. More importantly, volunteers get to serve in a mentor role for kids with deployed parents.
